About us

Greetings, in the lovely name of Jesus Christ! Here we will be giving a brief history of Monticello Pentecostal Church. Monticello Pentecostal Church, formerly called Rock Hill Pentecostal Church, was started on a Sunday evening at 2:00 p.m. in August or September of 1956. Bro. James (Jim) Mason purchased a tent from Bro. G.W. Milner. We had church in it for several months. Then we purchased the land to build the church on. The tent had began to leak. Mr. Gowen Hammond let us use one of his empty houses to have church in until we could get the church built. The church is built of concrete blocks. We only had the sanctuary to begin with. Then we built classrooms on the back of the church. We also added a bedroom and a kitchen for the evangelist quarters, then we added plaster on the block walls. Bro. Mason pastored for eight or nine years.Bro. M.O. Martin was then elected pastor. He was pastor for twelve or thirteen years. While he was pastor we bricked the church, put paneling on the walls, added the foyer, one small room for the nursery, and one large one for the classrooms. The front doors was put in the side of the new addition. There was a flowerbed fixed on the front of the church when he resigned.Bro. Kenneth (Kenny) King was elected pastor. He was with us for a year and then resigned in 1980. Bro. James Rushing was then elected pastor in 1980. During the time he was pastor we purchased new padded pews, put carpet in the sanctuary and floor covering in the kitchen and the classrooms. He resigned in 1988.We then were blessed to elect Bro. Glynn Hilton as our pastor in 1989. On January 25, 1989, he preached his first sermon as pastor of Monticello U.P.C. He pastored for nine years. During the time he pastored we moved the restrooms from the back of the church to the front. We took the large front classroom and fixed two restrooms and a nursery. We turned the small nursery into an office. He installed a baptistry where the restrooms were and some kitchen remodeling was done. When Bro. Hilton resigned we elected Bro. Billy Sanders as pastor. He was with us for about nine months. We purchased a trailer for the parsonage before he resigned. Then again we were blessed to re-elect Bro. Glynn Hilton as our pastor. They are doing a great work in the Monticello area. We are looking forward to them staying and a great harvest of souls being added to the church. Also, we are seeing our pastor's long time dream come true...what we are calling the "MIRACLE ON THE HILL" being built! We are excited and thankful for the mighty ways God has blessed us in our endeavor to build His church! On a side note...this is the church where Bro. Jerry Wayne Dillion received the precious gift of the Holy Ghost!!!
